What to expect at a sling library? (What happens at a sling library? – blog)
Chiefly to try out different styles of slings, but also to meet and socialise with other families who are interested in carrying. You are welcome to attend any meet for a catch up, chat or browse of the slings – I know how fulfilling it can be to get out of the house and meet other like minded parents and carers.
All of our carriers are listed in our online library – you can check what is available and make reservations online here
You do not need to book in advance, although it is a good idea to arrive as early as possible as we see people in order of arrival.
When do we meet?
Sling library meets will happen 3 times a month (please check the Facebook page for any on the day updates):
- second Monday of the month at Boston Tea Party Edgbaston
- second Tuesday of the month at Boston Tea Party Solihull
- third Wednesday of the month at Costa inside Next Merry Hill
- one Saturday a month – Touchbase Pears, Selly Oak (alongside Birmingham Women’s Hospital Home Birth Team)
During busy periods, you may need to wait but there will be space to do so and toys for little ones. Unfortunately we will be restricted to 15 minute slots for each family to save you waiting too long (although if there are families with children of a similar age/needs I will try and group you together for demonstrations and support). However, there is always the option of booking a private/small group session if you are looking to acquire a particular skill or try may different types of sling. The sessions are run completely by volunteers, who all have very small children of their own so your patience is appreciated!
What does it cost?
Hire is £15 for the month, which includes all of the support you get at the library session. If you would like to extend your hire at the end of month that’s no problem – just drop me a message. I retail lots of slings so if you love it I can have one ready for you when you return your hire or if I don’t sell that brand can find you discounts with other retailers. If you can’t make a meet, get in touch to see if you can pop in for a short consultation at another time.
You will need to register for an account MyTurn (free!), and provide card details in order to hire a sling. You can then use this card to pay for your hire or choose to pay in cash. We no longer take deposits but keep your card details on file. You will be asked to sign a hire agreement when you sign up, this is available here:
